Your Actions

Thanks for taking action for more fish and healthy oceans in Tassie! Here are a few simple things you can do to help ensure the Tasmanian Government gets the message loud and clear:

Pass It On

Spread the word by sharing the petition on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media

Say it Loud and Clear

- Write a letter to the Mercury, Examiner, or Advocate calling for Tassie to become Rec Net Free and help bring the fish back

- Write a letter to your local Member of Parliament supporting the call for a Rec Net Free Tassie and immediate phase out of gillnets to ensure we have fish for the future (contact details here)

- Attend a public meeting by the Department in your nearest town and tell them you support no recreational gillnets. Details are at the bottom of the page.

Businesses, Clubs & Organisations

Tasmania's marine environments are like nowhere else on earth and attract tourists from around the world. People come to go diving, snorkeling, fishing, and walking along our beautiful coastline. Recreational gillnets indiscriminately catch a wide variety of fish and wildlife, including vulnerable reef fish, hundreds of seabirds, penguins, and protected species each year. Tasmania is one of only a couple of places left in Australia where gillnets are permitted.

If your business, club or organisation would like to help create healthier and more abundant fisheries by supporting the phase out of gillnets, please send an email of your name and logo to marine@et.org.au.
